Trend Alert: Here's What's Popular In Exterior Design

by Heather Turri 11/27/2022

Whether you’re remodeling or building a brand new home, staying up to date on the latest trends can be an enormous source of inspiration. While not every trend will be perfect for you, knowing what’s popular can help you find the best possible options for your own home. Here are the biggest trends in exterior design to know right now:

Windows, Windows, Windows

One trend that is certainly not going anywhere is adding extra windows. Windows can change the entire facade of your home so they are just as important to exterior design as they are to the interior. The key to using this trend is to choose windows that match your home’s original style and architecture. This will keep the improvements from looking dated in the future and add timeless charm to your home.

Creamy White Paint

Some things just never go out of style and white paint is no exception. The best thing about white painted exteriors is that they don’t have to be boring or bland. White comes in dozens of different shades, which also means it will go with any other color, so take your time to choose the best white for your exterior. Think about your existing trim and architectural elements and you’ll have a striking new look with a classic color scheme.

Statement Garage Doors

Contrasting garage doors are a major trend in exterior design. The simplest examples are homeowners who opt for a dramatic color to include in architectural details and the garage door to make it cohesive but bold. Try a bright color or sleek black for a modern vibe. Other garage door enhancements like wooden facades, adding windows and other decorative elements are becoming more popular as well.

Interesting Front Doors

While colored front doors used to be all the rage, architectural interest and shape is the trend designers are loving now. Instead of a bold, bright color for your front door, try replacing the door entirely with a completely fresh look. Neutral and dark colors with natural wood tones and iron are popular, as are double doors and archways. Adding architectural interest with your front door while keeping it cohesive with the rest of the home’s design is a trendy yet timeless way to enhance the entire exterior.

These are just a few major trends in exterior design right now. However, they are an excellent place to begin if you need inspiration for your own home build or remodel.
